Core Biopsy

  • Do NOT bathe today. You may bathe tomorrow. You may remove the gauze before you bathe.
  • Do NOT remove the steri-strips for 3-4 days. If they come off before that time, you may place a band-aid or antibiotic ointment on the entry site.
  • You will probably develop bruising. You may experience discomfort. You may take Tylenol or Ibuprofen for the pain (if allowed by your doctor). Please do NOT take aspirin for at least two days. An ice pack applied to the area might also provide relief.
  • You may resume normal activity immediately. Please avoid strenuous activity for 24 hours.
  • Wear your bra to bed the first night to reduce movement.
  • If you develop excessive discomfort OR in the unlikely event the breast becomes swollen, red, hot, very tender, or a hard red lump develops, or if you develop a fever, call your doctor or us at ST LOUIS CANCER & BREAST INSTITUTE.... On nights, weekends, or holidays call beeper (314) 419-3987.
