Margaret D. Coplin, MD, MSMargaret D. Coplin, M.D., M.S.

Bright and smiling with a warm personality, Dr. Margaret Coplin brings an important optimism to every patient she treats. She loves people and, in addition to being an excellent physician, she is known as a great communicator who finds something to relate to with each of her patients.

Dr. Coplin firmly believes that cancer patients “truly know what's important in life.” She chose to specialize in oncology due, in part, to a high incidence of cancer in her family. She also appreciates the scientific aspect of cancer treatment and research. She was well published, even before medical school, and is interested in outcomes research to validate the effect on health status from the services provided by healthcare professionals.

Dr. Coplin stands apart as the only nutritionist in the group. She has a master's of science degree in Human Nutrition and Nutritional Biology from the Division of Biological Sciences and the Pritzer School of Medicine, University of Chicago and is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology. She completed her fellowship in hematology oncology at Barnes Jewish Hospital, St. Louis which is also where she undertook her residency and internship. She earned her medical degree at St. Louis University School of Medicine. Dr. Coplin earned her bachelor of science in biology with magna cum laude honors from St. Louis University

Dr. Coplin is a member of the American Dietetic Association and has successfully completed their comprehensive Certification in Adult Weight Management. Because 80 percent of breast cancer patients go on to live long lives, and recent data shows that diet and exercise may decrease recurrence and death, she is interested in helping her patients lose weight and maintain it through a healthy lifestyle, accurate diet information, and physical activity.

Outside of work, Dr. Coplin has two teenagers who occupy much of her attention when she is not seeing patients. She also enjoys the St. Louis symphony, walking or jogging around Forest Park, rollerblading, biking, and is an avid reader and supporter of Fragile X research.
